For assistance with Icons, the Iconfactory is your best resource. I prefer to use Candybar for applying system and toolbar icons and Pixadex for collecting and applying icons in the Finder. I use Iconbuilder Pro to create icons.

Desktops can be changed by opening the system preferences and using the Desktops pane on OSX. On OS9 use the Appearance control panel. Windows users refer to Windows Help for assistance changing desktops.
